PRIVACY POLICY

How Crate handles your data.

Effective May 6, 2026

Crate doesn't collect your data, doesn't track you, and doesn't share information with third parties. Your music, playback history, and preferences stay on your device and on your own Plex Media Server.

Obairhaus LLC ("we," "us," "our") operates the Crate for Plex mobile application ("Crate" or "the App"). This Privacy Policy describes how Crate handles your information.
Information you provide

To use Crate, you sign in with your Plex account. Plex's authentication system provides Crate with an access token that lets the app communicate with your Plex Media Server. This token is stored locally on your device.

Information stored locally

Crate stores the following on your device only:

  • Your Plex authentication token

  • Your Plex server URL and library identifiers

  • Your Plex username and profile picture URL

  • Cached library data (albums, playlists, artists) for offline access

  • Recently played albums and playlists

  • Track ratings ("Hearts"), which sync to your Plex server

  • Downloaded music files, only when you choose to download them

  • App preferences such as audio quality settings

This information never leaves your device except to communicate with the Plex services described below.

Information we do not collect
  • No analytics services or third-party SDKs

  • No custom crash reporting beyond what Apple provides at the OS level

  • No location tracking

  • No access to your contacts, photos, camera, or microphone

  • No advertising

  • No selling or sharing of data with third parties

  • No advertising identifiers (IDFA)

Third-party services

Plex, Inc.

Crate communicates with Plex's authentication service to sign you in, and with your own Plex Media Server to access your music. Your use of Plex is governed by Plex's privacy policy at plex.tv/about/privacy-legal.

Apple, Inc.

The app is distributed through the Apple App Store. Downloads, updates, and crash reports are handled by Apple per their privacy policy.

How information is used

The information stored on your device is used solely to authenticate you with your Plex Media Server, display your music library, stream and download music from your server, and remember your preferences and recently played items. We do not use your information for any other purpose.

Data security

Data Crate stores on your device is protected by iOS's built-in security model. Communication with Plex services occurs over HTTPS.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete all data stored by Crate at any time:

  • Sign out within Crate to clear all locally stored Plex data

  • Delete the app to remove all data, including downloaded music

To delete your Plex account itself, visit plex.tv/manage-account. This is governed by Plex, not Crate.

Children's privacy

Crate is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your rights (GDPR / EU users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have rights regarding your personal data. Because Crate does not collect personal data on our servers — everything stays on your device — most data subject rights are exercised by controlling your own device:

  • Right of access: Your data is on your device, accessible to you at all times

  • Right to erasure: Sign out of Crate, or delete the app

  • Right to rectification: Data can be corrected through the Plex services it originates from

  • Right to data portability: Export your data through Plex itself

For questions about your rights, contact us at the email below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in an updated effective date. Continued use of Crate after changes constitutes acceptance.
